# Crush.pics: review and real cost

Compresses store images automatically and renames files and ALT text for image SEO.

Verdict: Read the fine print (4 of 8 checks). Rank 2 of 3 in Images and SEO. Developer: Space Squirrel Ltd.. Listing: https://apps.shopify.com/crush-pics

Stores that want set-and-forget compression with SEO file names and ALT text get it for $4.99 a month on Micro [1]. The catch is that plans meter megabytes, not images, so heavy photos push you up a tier, and there is no data export, Shopify Flow support or named security certification [1][2][7].

## Monthly cost

| Store size | Plan | Per month | Arithmetic |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 orders | Micro | $4.99 | Micro, $4.99 a month for 500 MB, covers 40 new images unless they average over 12.5 MB each [1]. The Free plan is a one-time 25 MB, so it does not cover a monthly flow [2]. |
| 2,000 orders | Micro | $4.99 | Micro's 500 MB covers 200 new images if they average 2.5 MB or less: $4.99 a month [1]. |
| 10,000 orders | Pro | $9.99 | 800 images at up to 2.5 MB each need up to 2 GB, Pro's monthly quota, at $9.99 [1]. Micro would cover them only if they average 625 KB or less. |

## Overview

Crush, also sold as Crush.pics, compresses the images in your Shopify store and renames files and ALT text so search engines understand them [1]. You set compression and naming rules once and it works in the background as images arrive [1][3].

The app launched in June 2016, is built by Space Squirrel Ltd. in the UK and carries the Built for Shopify badge [1].

## Pricing

Crush meters data, not images [2]. Micro costs $4.99 for 500 MB a month, Pro $9.99 for 2 GB and Advanced $19.99 for 5 GB, with larger plans up to $149.99 for 100 GB [2]. Unused quota does not roll over [2]. If new photos average 2.5 MB or less, Micro covers stores adding 40 or 200 images a month, and Pro covers 800 [1]. There are no refunds [2].

## Merchants

The app is rated 4.8 from 454 reviews, with 90% at five stars [1]. Merchants describe it as set-and-forget compression that lifts PageSpeed scores without visible quality loss [1]. Recent reviews from April 2026 criticise a redesigned interface and slower automation [8].

## Data

Crush stores images and its database on Amazon S3 and delivers compressed images through Amazon CloudFront [7]. The privacy policy says European data may be transferred to Canada and the United States, and it names no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification [7]. Originals are kept for 30 days for restores [6]. There is no documented export, but compressed and renamed images stay in your store if you remove the app [4].
